Walking through New York City: Part I

So it actually took me nearly half an year to even begin writing my second post? LOL.

Time flies so fast. Spring Break ended in a flash, and I'm already in the seventh week of classes of the last term of my freshman year in college. And all of my friends are already back home lol.

Spring Break was possibly one of the best times of freshman year, since it helped me de-stress: spend time on things other than books, midterms and assignments. I went out on walks, listened to good music, and read a ton. Moreover, it helped me get over the hell of the  period that Winter Quarter was.

Winter Quarter was one rough period: Given I was on a full load as an Electrical Engineering major, there was so much work to do, pretty much every single day. Weekends were spent doing nothing but homework, or some assignment or the other. On top of all of the coursework, I was teaching math to middle school kids in possibly the most struggling school of the already in-shambles Philadelphia Public Schools System. To make things worse, my physique took a gigantic hit. I lost so much weight, messed up my dietary habits to a whole new level and fell sick often. The weather was trash, and I wasn't really being able to put enough time into things I loved to do, like reading.

Winter Term in one picture.

But hey, on the brighter side, I did well in school. And I'm glad Winter term ended. I'm glad it did.

This term has been amazing so far. I'm taking a lighter load, taking classes that I actually like. I don't have to worry about equilibrium concentrations or stoichiometry anymore. I've been running everyday, and I've been able to find time to read and code everyday. And I've met the best people during my time on campus so far.

Enough with the digressions.

It was Spring Break, and my friend Kevin who also goes to a quarter school (they're not wrong when they say birds of the same feather flock together)  in California and I decided to spend it together in Philadelphia. After literally aimlessly walking the whole of Philly and driving around the suburbs in a matter of three days, we decided to go to New York City. It was Kevin's first time on the East Coast. How's a trip to the East Coast not complete without a bite of the Big Apple? I also hadn't been to NYC in a while, so it seemed to be the best thing to do.

New York City bruh?

It was totally unplanned. When I say unplanned, I mean it. We literally had no clue of when we were going, and what we were going to do. We didn't even know if we were going to head back or spend the night out in there. An initial attempt to go failed after I pulled an all-nighter for no apparent reason and overslept.

We woke up early the next day, to catch the earliest NJ Transit train and go to NYC, without any itinerary and an un-confirmed Airbnb booking. Stay tuned for the next part of the journey.

Hey there!

Welcome to my blog!

I set this blog up way back at the start of school, but thanks to Drexel and the quarter system that it follows, I've not been able to post anything so far. So let me use this post as a headstart and go ahead to introduce my blog, titled Nunchi.

I love languages. In fact, I speak a total of seven different languages with ease. I also have a love for words. Whenever I come across a new language, I usually watch out for the most beautiful words. For example, Hygge (pronounced Hooga) which in Dansk (Danish) refers to an absence of anything annoying, taking pleasure from the presence of gentle or soothing things. And Nunchi (눈치), which in Korean alludes to the ability to gauge the mood of others, read the atmosphere and react appropriately.

If you are still wondering, yes, that's how I got to the name of this blog, Nunchi. I love East Asian cultures (I'm attempting to self-learn either of Japanese or Korean), and I chanced upon this wonderful word while reading some random article on the internet.

Well, don't be confused by the deep meaning that underlies the name of the blog. I'm not one of those armchair philosophers to write posts so deep that you could see Adele rolling in there. My posts are going to be whatever that comes off the top of my head: some with meaning, and most without meaning. I hope to write on a wide spectrum of topics which I feel could initiate conversations and forge relationships: conversations worth remembering and relationships worth enduring.

Alright, I'm elated. Elated that I got myself to sit in here and write this much. Given the horrible procrastinator that I'm, let's see how long it's gonna take before I write my second post.

Best,

A
